In the future, there are no jobs – only inspired work

The old paradigm of work is at death’s door, breathing its last gasps. The days of toiling away at less-than-desirable tasks all the while sacrificing our precious resources, such as our energy and time, for the sake of “earning a living” are over. Instead, it is the dawning of a new era in work – an era where inspiration, creativity, and abundance reign supreme.

A “job” vs “work”

The word “job” originated in the 16th century and is derived from “jobbe”, coming from “gobbe”, meaning lump or mass. The phrase “jobbe of worke” meant a “lump of work” that was considered to be so unsavory someone had to be paid to do it. Most of the jobs we have created over the centuries since distorted this idea into a belief that we must do that which is undesirable in order to get money, but this was never what work was meant to be.

The phrase “jobbe of worke” meant a “lump of work” that was considered to be so unsavory someone had to be paid to do it.

The word “work” has its origins in the Old English word “weork” meaning an “opportunity of expending labour in some useful way”. You might notice the subtle distinction – a job is about “doing something to get money”, work is about “creating something useful for others”. The emphasis is more on giving rather than getting, which makes more sense given who we are.

The word “work” has its origins in the Old English word “weork” meaning an “opportunity of expending labour in some useful way”.

It would be bizarre if the grand design for humanity were that we are born into this lifetime with our unique set of strengths, gifts, and talents, and then labour away at activities that have no meaning and make little use of the magnificent beings that we are, and then we die. Yet, this is the limited model of work we have permitted ourselves. While it may have served a select few in the past, it does no longer. The old concepts of work are perishing so that we as a species may move beyond merely surviving into our rightful thriving.

You might wonder how you are going to “pay your bills” if you don’t have a “job”, but this is one of the endeavours of the new paradigm – to understand the true nature of energy and to develop innovative systems and structures that disenthrall us from the idea of “working for money” and allow us to be supported in our real work as the creators that we are.

The era of the creator

When we become present to ourselves and listen intently, each of us discovers that there are seeds of ideas that wants to be birthed through us. If we choose to trust the quiet guidance of our own inspiration and take action steps to make these ideas real, this is how the new paradigm will come to be. This is not random, it is how existence expands. The joyous part of work is to know that through our creativity, we are making our contribution.

Creating is not just about crafting beautiful works of art. Our inspired work can be fashioned in any medium we so choose. It does not matter as much what we create as it matters that what we create is an authentic expression of who we are. Even though each person’s inspired work is unique, there are a few commonalities to what we create:

  • Opportunities to share our gifts
  • Businesses that lead from the heart
  • Channels for abundance to flow to us and through us
  • Communities of people to serve
  • Experiences that uplift all humans
  • Value-based services and resource-friendly products
  • Collaborative projects that contribute to the thriving of all
  • A home where our human self feels useful and our soul self can express
  • New systems and structures that support the evolution of humanity

Inspired work as a concept is not new, but what is new is that our collective consciousness has evolved to the degree that we are now able to live it as our new reality.

The future of work is here

We, as a humanity, are blessed to have been born into an era where our entire way of working is radically evolving. The miracles of the modern age will come to serve us well. With current technology, we are capable of automating many of those tasks that had previously consumed our lives, thereby freeing us to discover, create, and live our inspired work.

As consciousness continues to expand, so must the world we live in. However, the old paradigm was so deeply embedded into our societal beliefs that it will still take some time to continue to root out all of those old patterns and limiting stories. This is why an important focus of so much of our work right now is to deepen our relationships with our inner being so that we may embody our true nature. It is only from this state of self-realization that we will be able to birth a new paradigm where we all, as sovereign beings, are living our inspired life.
