Bring your humanity to work

Is that even real? It’s a knee-jerk response most of us now have to any sort of remarkable media, be it aired on conventional channels or posted via social platforms. The prevalence of AI is making us lose our already tenuous grip on reality. However, I am going to argue this is a good thing. When we blur the lines of what’s “real”, it moves us beyond our fixed limitations and opens us to new potentials. To be sure, AI is changing what we do for work and the ways we work. It is also making us challenge our conventional ideas of work altogether.

When we blur the lines of what’s “real”, it moves us beyond our fixed limitations and opens us to new potentials.

In regard to my own work, I myself have not yet jumped on the AI bandwagon. Due to my nature, I like to use technology when it’s at its most effective and the early-stage kinks have already been worked out. I’m not a fan of tools that are clunky or inefficient, which is how I perceive AI in its current form. Granted, legions of people find it plenty useful as it is. AI helps us to:

  • Gain instant access to the sum of human knowledge
  • Collate and organize our thoughts
  • Automate laborious tasks
  • Simplify complex processes
  • Clarify creative ideas
  • Reduce barriers to creation
  • Expand our perceptions of what’s possible
  • Mirror our own state of consciousness (for me, this is its most significant current application)

AI may be in its infancy, however, it’s already radically shifting the landscape of work. As we continue to birth the new paradigm on our planet, our work must also evolve. This is not a time to hang onto the past, we are here to create anew. Even though AI might be taking over jobs that have been historically performed by humans, this is actually a blessing. We are being freed to do work more in alignment with our true capacities. While AI may be replacing our old concepts of work, what it will never be able to replace is our humanity.

The blessings of being human

In recent decades, much of the nature of our work has been dependent upon our mental capacities. Largely, we were being paid in exchange for “knowledge” or “skills” we had acquired. This is one of the many reasons that society at large grew to detest the idea of work. We disassociated it from the totality of who we are and attached our value solely to the output of our minds. The good news is that AI is making our usefulness in this regard obsolete. It is forcing us to expand beyond this one-dimensional expression to recognize and reclaim our inherent value as the beings we are.

AI is forcing us to recognize and reclaim our inherent value as the beings we are.

As we outgrow the information age, our entire concept of work must evolve to where it encompasses our body, heart, and soul. Work is no longer just an arena for mental acrobatics used to prove our worthiness to others. It is elevated into a platform where we express the wonder of who we are. Rather than our creativity being pushed aside as “extraneous”, it becomes the prime driver for moving humanity forward. Instead of work being a place where we have to suppress our nature, it becomes a sanctum where we are free to embody our humanity. In this coming age, we will discover that the qualities that make us human are also the attributes that make us useful to others.

In regard to work, we will want to share our:

Love
To meet another with an open heart from a place of generosity and care is nourishing sustenance for haggard souls.

Sensuality
To create opportunities for people to use their senses to find pleasure in their temporal life is a quintessential human experience.

Curiosity
To explore and seek out uncharted places be they in our physical world or our inner terrain is integral to our evolutionary journey.

Presence
To witness another without the overlay of any story is one of the most precious gifts we can offer.

Awe
To let ourselves be surprised and delighted by the unfolding mystery of our existence is truly a human capacity.

Compassion
To welcome our experience as it is, not as we believe it should be, is a balm to all involved.

Empathy
To form a bond of belonging can only happen with one who has also been in human form and had the human experience.

Forgiveness
To know and accept ourselves as fallible beings allows others to give themselves permission to be the same.

Inspiration
To be guided by source in the creative actions of birthing a new reality is the ultimately joyful work.

Innovation
To progressively enhance our experience through experimental iteration is a testament to our tenacity.

Imagination
Whereas AI is predictive based on factual data from past history, humans have the ability to tap into all yet-to-be-realized unlimited potentials that exist throughout eternity.

Consciousness
To be in relationship between the human and divine aspects of ourselves provides a broader perspective and helps maintain equanimity amidst the turmoil of the times.

So, if you find yourself asking, what’s real anymore? Remember that you are. You are as real as it gets. The more you bring all of who you are to your work, the more the world benefits.

...

As AI continues to evolve, similar to past technological inventions such as the wheel or the printing press, it will only integrate itself even further into our lives. In the case of AI, however, perhaps it will even assimilate into our biology. The speed with which is AI is propagating throughout our existence is alarming to many. Of course, some naysayers argue that it is leading us to destruction. Their arguments are valid. Those potentials exist because all potentials exist. This is why it is imperative that we continue to bring the light of human consciousness into all that we do. This will affect how we use AI, which in turn, will determine our future. There is no doubt that AI is here to stay. By bringing our humanity to work, we can ensure that so are we.
